Airbags

I have a 2005 X3 - Anyone else have the problem that the Passenger Airbag Not Active light stays on sometimes when there is a passenger in the front seat? Dealer has not been able to help. Any advice?

Thanks

I do believe that there is not just a sensor to tell if someone is there or not but to also detect how much the person weighs (for example a small child would leave the airbag off). That's the only thing I know of and haven't had any problems with mine.

That's exactly what it is. If, for example, a small child is sitting there (I don't know what the minimum weight limit is), the airbag will remain off... This is to prevent serious injury to that child in case of an accident in which the airbag deploys.

I believe this is for anyone who weighs under 70 lbs? Check out the manual.

By the way, welcome to our site, and congrats on your X3!

Hope you become a regular. This is a great, informative site with some wonderful people.

with the engine running try turning the steering wheel all the way to the right..keep it there for one-two secs and then turn it all the way to the left. If everything is fine, it should go off.

the only problem with that is that while im driving on the express way and my wife moves to get some thing for our daughter in the back or what ever the light comes on and stays on for like 2 minutes or so...... i just took the light apart and im working on a way so the light isnt so bright while im driving at night since the dealer is no help.
