X3 Questions

When is the new Model due out?
Any pictures available?
Will there be a diesel as well?

The new model is due in fall of 2010 as a 2011 model, in keeping with the 7-yr model cycle. It will be built in Spartanburg, no word on diesel. Dunno if it'll still be available with a manual either

Hey come on, although they're moving the production from Austria to US, they still need to produce cars back to europe, thus there will still be diesels and manuals. The X5 is done in the US and there are all the model combinations over here in Europe.

Just because US only uses one or two fuel models doesn't mean there aren't a dozen models for the other countries.

So, quicksilver, yes there will be at least as many model combinations as today. They're just optimizing the US production line by moving the X3 together to its older brother.

Well, the X5 used to be available with a manual. Now, BMW cites "lack of demand" as the primary reason for making the X5 auto-only. That and "now there's space for bigger cupholders."

Agh you are right, I hadn't noticed it (I never cared about the X5, to be honest) - there are no manual X5 anymore, anywhere, not even in the European market. I guess now Germans don't care about having auto on their X5's, and the other smaller countries won't even care about the latest X5, which can easily go over 100K euros for the base version.

I also guess this just proves that moving the X3 to the US will eventually affect the european market and the quality and options of the X3 model.

Now I need to try hard to get and keep one of the latest 2009 Austrian X3's before the production moves away from there, or to buy back our 2006 lease car, or to expect the X1 to be something really remarkable.

Fall 2010.. That could be a problem since my x3's lease is done in June 2010...
