'04 X3 Help

Hello,

New to the site but love. Justbought a '04 X3.

Does anyone know how or if there is a way to set the lighter to go off when the vehicle is off? I have a sat radio plugged in but the lighter seems to stay powered when I shut the vehicle off.

Also can anyone tell me the exact location of the cd changer and alarm system. Or where they are supposed to be. The dealer told me this vehicle is wired for both, but I want to see if I actually have them.

Sounds stupid but Im learning.

Thanks

The AC power is always on even when the vehicle is turned off, and it remains this way. There is a sleep mode that occurs automatically after about 20min, but I don't know if it powers off the cigarette lighter. Best bet is to simply unplug your device. Trust me, I like this feature and wish it were on the newer BMWs.

Both the CD changer and alarm are prewired, but do not come with the vehicle. If you wish to install the alarm yourself, the wires are bundled in the overhead switch panel where the moonroof switch is. The CD changer wires are wrapped under the centre console armrest (if so equipped).

Yes, this is true of most electrical appliances in the vehicle. If you accidentally leave a map light on overnight (I did this once), it will shut off once the vehicle goes into its sleep mode. Prevents battery discharge.
