PANORAMIC SUNROOF stopped working

Hi,

The panoramic sunroof stopped working. The second rear part of the roof does not want to be closed. As a result, I cannot open it or completely close it. It seems like that the chain from driver side which moving rear part of the roof up and down is not moving anymore. It stuck somewhere. I am wondering if someone had similar problems and was able to fix it. Any advice is highly appreciated.

PS. Can be this cover by CPO extended warranty?

Thank you

Weasel will become famous soon enough
There are repair kits for the pano sunroofs at the dealers now, and it should be covered by CPO. If you search through the previous threads on stuck sunroofs you will see how people had to use a screwdriver and a hammer to close the rear panel when it got stuck open. And when I have a panoramic sunroof with broken parts I can sometimes get authorization to replace the whole thing depending on what is broken. (included in repair kit or not)

Just keep in mind the dealer has to get Teileclearing authorization to replace the whole thing, so expect a repair to it first.

Sunroof is not covered by CPO warranty. I know because I had a similar issue with my sunroof, the sunshade was broken and stuck inside. They did replace it since it was still under 4 yr warranty but the SA did tell me that its not covered and also gave me a copy of official BMW list of what is covered under it. My sunroof was a messed up job and they ended up replacing the whole cassette and the internal roof panel. You can try to convince them to do it under goodwill program or try doing it yourself. I was told the cassette costs C$ 3k + taxes.

maybe in Canada, but in USA, its pretty much covers everything except wear and tear. and trim.

That would be interesting indeed. I don't think BMW can cover something in warranty in a country and not in another. I have seen the list of items covered under CPO with dealer, are you sure it is indeed covered?

I visited BMW dealer and they were not able to fix it under CPO warranty. They said that Sunroof kit has to be replaced which is not covered by the CPO warranty. The quote on the fix was about $2000. They talked to BMWUSA twice and no help.

Just as I thought. You may want to talk with your dealer about goodwill warranty repair. Its something that allows dealers to extend "full" warranty coverage to a customer for goodwill with a future business opportunity. There is a TSB for it, look it up in the bimmerfest, your delaer will know about it but still take a print with you.

Its a Technical Service Bulletin. The original number is SIB 01 07 03 and there was a superseded one which basically says this:

This Service Information bulletin supersedes S.I. B01 07 03 dated April 2006. designates changes to this revision SUBJECT BMW Center Administered Customer Assistance Program (CACAP) Effective with repairs performed on and after May 1, 2006 BMW is pleased to announce significant enhancements to the BMW Center Administered Customer Assistance Program or (CACAP) otherwise known as the Self-Authorization or "SA" Program. BMW has taken this initiative to complement your growing business giving you more flexibility to assist customers in different ways. In addition to the enhanced participation limits, some center and customer participation criteria have been eliminated allowing more flexibility with this program in the areas of repair and non-repair goodwill. This program now includes the enhancements announced at the 2006 National Aftersales Conference to help support the "Fix The Customer First" pillar of the Aftersales Strategy. Major changes include the following: 1. Time has been increased from 12 months to 18 months beyond the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, 2. Mileage has been increased from 60,000 to 75,000, 3. Reduced participation by BMW NA after 6 months has been removed, 4. The limitation of 3 goodwill assistance contributions per VIN has been eliminated, 5. Maintenance services, previously excluded, are now eligible under repair related goodwill, 6. The "one time basis" non-repair related goodwill contribution limitation has been eliminated, 7. A new option, "The BMW 101 Experience" including transportation, has been added to the nonrepair related goodwill possibilities. Please read this complete bulletin to find all the details of the changes and better understand how this program works.
