Transmission service

Dealership will probably indicate that it is a lifetime fill and no need of maintenance,( big disaster with mercedes benz) but at what mileage do you guys recommend doing a Trans filter and fluid change on a 3.0 X3 MY05 5 speed transmission. I currently have 42k on the clock. Would 50K be a good starting point or should I have done one long time ago like at 30K? Also does it take a special type of fluid like MB vehicles?
TIA

50k miles is fine for a Transmission flush, since I had mine done at Inspection II even later than that. Note that only half the fluid can be changed, since the torque converter itself cannot be drained. There is a specific type of fluid that is to be used, I can't remember off the top of my head, but it is specified on the sticker on the transmission unit itself.

Thanks. No drain plug for the torque converter? probably 30K intervals then after my first 50k would be ideal.

Yeah about about to hit 80k and going to do mine in a few months. Gotta get part numbers for filter and gasket.

I change the ATF and TC oil every 50K.

No need...my 3.0 has a 114k miles on it, and the tranny is still smooth as ever, never changed the fluid. Although I thought about it at 100k miles. You definitely don't need to do it until maybe then. I wouldn't mess with it at 50k miles.
