Question Strange issue 3.0i

X3 2006 3.0i automatic with 150k km

For awhile, i have some jerking in acceleration, no check engine, first tough with what i found on the web was the oxygen sensor ... the jerking disapear when i unplug the sensors. I change the precat first bank ... no change. this only happen when the engine was at the running temperature. The first 5 minutes after a cold start, nothing ... when I check the RPM even without feel the jerking, i can see the needle goes up jerkily

not changed the second 02 sensor yet.

last night, i merged on highway, check engine go on ... fine ! it probably related to my jerking problem and now the computer know what it go wrong ... 5th speed take a time to engage ... feel like i lost power, run i little bit rough and more heavy exhaut noise when I accelerate ... I stop at the next exit, rought and low idle (500-600rpm), like misfire on acceleration from a stop ... stop the engine, restart, no more check engine, no more rough running ... this moring, nothing ... except the jerking.

the error code is probably still stored in the memory - try to use BMW software to read the error, to get an idea what was wrong... sometimes the MAF sensor creates similar problems with rouogh idling.. i am not so sure about the jerking, launching...

i also clean the maf, no effect at all

i can hear some air noise somewhere around the air intake but not sure if it's normal or not. is DISA valve make some light "swhhh" noise in normal running ? I didn't find leak or broken hose in this area.

i will investigate more on that ... if it could be only a broken air intake at 40$ i will be happy ... i need a break after the 2000$ in maintenance since i buy it 10 months ago (water pump, thermostat, tensionner, spark plug, cabin filter, o2 sensor, egr valve, reprogramming... yes, i got screw by a indy bmw mechanic... it was the only one around ... )

no code from a generic reader ... a friend have one so i check this today ...

air intake boot seems good, engine have vaccum (test with a plastic bag when opened oil cap and oil check gauge). i swap the bank 2 oxygen sensor with the old one i changed a couple weeks ago in the first bank ... no change at all ...

check engine doesn't reappear today ... only the jerking

one more thing about this ... no jerking at wide open acceleration ...

problem solve ... coil pack cylinder 2 failed with NO CHECK ENGINE ...

and according with the mechanic : wrong sparks plugs that could cause coilpack failure... I have BKR6EIX and they are listed for x3 3.0i on NGK web site... So he put BKR6EQUP ...

run perfect

a reply on this post send me an e-mail, I sold my x3 last years ... almost pay someone to take it away from me ...

for the coilpack hidden issues, i take it in a garage with the BMW tools ...

P.S: winter is coming, change your CCV if it never be done ... if you don't want see 7'ish liter of burning oil spill everywhere on you and your driveway ... and waterpump and tensionner and egr and transfer case and vanos and 02 sensor and oil filter housing gasket and valve cover gasket and batterie and ...

Do you remember what they did to figure it out? I have the software on my labtop but it doesn't tell me what it really is.

CCV is on my list
But I live in New Mexico and the winter is not that bad.
