How to price the 4.6is
So with that said. I bought it knowing it needed things. So far I have put roughly $4750 into it. Those things being: 1. Major repair which included pcv, all ccv hoses, osv, vcg, valley pan gasket and valley pan, all gaskets and o rings in between there. Also motor mounts were swapped, spark plugs etc. (Probably a few additional things that don't come to the top of my head) 2. I bought the depo headlights off eBay at ~$750 shipped 3. Purchased another set of style 87 with brand new toyo proxes $975. I do have some other small money into it but those are the big ticket items. With that said, Part of this decision comes from not wanting or having time to DIY on this car. I work 40-50 hours a week (I know, nothing crazy) but I don't feel like wrenching on my cars like I used to. So I'm looking to get into something a little more conservative with a warranty etc. I'm looking at left over 2014 Ford F-150 stx package. My dad bought one in September and I fell in love. The leftovers have a huge markdown. I know it isn't a BMW but I can live with it. So what's the x5 worth. Obviously only what someone will pay but I'm trying to determine how to price it. vehicle basics... 2003 Estoril blue on Alcantara x5 4.6is 99k miles New tires plus large recent maintenance project Only flaws are cosmetic (few tears in Alcantara) paint needs a really good detail. For its age, it's actually pretty clean. Heated seats, all heat air con work fine. Mid display has a few dead spots, as well as the instrument cluster OBC line. To get all of my money out of it (won't happen) I need to almost be at 14k. Id like to get part of that big repair back when I sell it if possible. I think I'll start at 13k. I don't need to sell it, kinda just want to sell it while it's running well. Any input on pricing the car is welcomed. Also if anyone can give me ideas to post in my for sale ad that would be awesome. When I made my for sale ad for my 330 I think I listed too many flaws (I'm just overly honest). Thanks!

Find a good indy to take care of it, and then drive it 10k-15k miles before you sell. You might get your money out of the repairs that way (figuring $0.50/mile). Really, it sounds like you've got it pretty well sorted.

It's running really well right now and I believe everything is sorted out that needs attention right at this point in time. I think part of it is the terrifying feeling I get when i think about the next repair bill. I wrenched on my e36 and e46 but for some reason I just have no motivation to wrench on this. I knew the repairs would be more for this car but I wasnt expecting a 3100 repair bill 3 weeks into ownership.

I do not mean to thread jack, but do you mind telling me where you bought a full set of style 87's with tires for 975? That seems like a good deal.

I was at the same place you are. Bought my X, spent money on it totally resealing the engine to get rid of oil leaks, then BAM, timing chain guide failure. Put in a used engine. Seemingly I'm always wrenching on it, replacing this here, getting rid of squeaks there. But I like it to much to sell it. I agree you'd definitely be better off driving it awhile before selling to get your money back out of it.
Also, wheels and headlights can't be figured in on maintenance money, unless you had bent rims, cracked headlights, etc...

If you decide to keep it, the timing chain guide job approaches. fyi
Good luck either way.
