Any responses to this post would be of interest to me as well!
I just replaced the air suspension components for the front passenger side of my '04 E53 4.8is 7 months ago. Now it looks like my front driver's side components are in need of replacement. I am seriously wondering whether I should spend another $1,500-$1,700 to stay Stock. Or, give up on the air suspension and go traditional spring suspension. THANKS!!! |

Hello I would like to ask if you have the possibility to do it in your garage?
Because the front strut new can be purchased for 600-700 from Arnott. The rest is labour. I did the replacement in 3 hours with no experience, just by watching some youtube videos. Also before deciding to replace the strut, may I ask what did you find wrong with the front driver side? Is the air bag blown or what? regards |

Had to put my second set of fronts on last year. First time was under warranty but they didn't follow the guidelines of replacing both sides at the same time so one failed a few months after the second. The reasons I stuck with the air suspension rather than going the spring route:
1-Money. Granted the springs would last longer than the next time I have to replace an airstrut, it is still a larger investment to swap the whole system out. 2-Towing. Self-leveling is nice. 3-Extra clearance. Not a lot of it, but being able to raise a couple of inches when I go out to the lake is handy. Not sure if OP has 2-axle system or not. (1 and 3 might not apply.) Scott |
