Good call AM! I had the 86 right LOL... I actually just checked my log from my last change and i buttoned her up at 98 degrees. Not sure why 82/86 stuck in my head.

Alright guys - embarrassingly, I started the car and it took another 2L of fluid. So the exact amount that came out, went back in. Thanks for your help everyone

I've now got major shift problems after doing the ZF service kit and I feel sick in the guts.

The only thing that springs to mind is maybe I didn't seat the Mechatronic double square part properly but it seemed in when I installed. It only needed light pressure.

I don't know if I needed to push it in hard? Can you reinstall the Mechatronic unit with the bridge not in properly (or if it fell out during installation?)

Everything bolted up perfectly without any tight spots?

The other possible thought in my head is not enough fluid?

I feel so terrible that I may have borked up my car

I can't remember which series it is but the bridge seal now come with a little tab on it and it has to be cut off if your series didn't have it so that it fits correctly.

Great point. Nowadays the mechatronic square seal with already cut off tab is sold. Relevant threads:

Thanks guys,

I got the genuine ZF kit so hopefully that wasn't an issue. I don't have a pic of the whole part unfortunately.

wpoll will become famous soon enough
You would know if the extra tab was there and in the way - it totally stops the bridge seal from fitting.

So you'd push it in and it wouldn't go, it would fall straight out? I can't believe I don't remember checking the fit properly.

In my case, yes, wouldn't fit. But there were two small pieces to remove, unlike in X5only's case
