Thanks for the write up. I have been thinking of going with the Dinan tune also but hesitated as I had not heard from anyone who had completed it on a vehicle lately. It is good to hear of your experiences and impressions.
How is the throttle response from cruising at say at 40 MPH? I am very interested in hearing your impressions on "tip in acceleration", not a hard stomp, just a 20-30% increase in throttle pressure.

Interesting update! I'm kinda bummed you didn't record your pre install #s via dyno as suggested earlier. Any plans to hit the dyno for post install #s?

I did look for a Dyno shop just for the X5 you need a AWD dyno - and there was not one nearby.. I would have to go out of way drive and pay for the testing.. I will get it done soon tho as i want to see the results myself.. I am loving everything about the DINAN tune except the quiet exhaust sound at idle now. where before it sounded like a scary muscle car now has been quieted down to a whisper..

I'm glad you like it, but quick question...
Where did you get these HP numbers at? Dinan shows only 8hp increase with Stage 1, stage 3 is so that the tune can correctly use the amount of air, and 8hp more for the throttle body (all from their website). 28hp for the throttle body and tune is really over exaggerated. Maybe in a Honda where their "from factory" parts are not performance based whatsoever. I'll let someone chime in with real numbers, but I am thinking closer to 10-15hp real world. But the weight loss from both the resonator removal and exhaust and the corrected power curve may be the bigger factor. Again, I am glad you like the finished product!

I don't think you can consider all those claimed increases to be cumulative. You would need each of them to get the benefit from the others. A dyno would show it for sure. Also, the hp increases you are noting are at the hp peak, up near redline. Is that the engine speed you are using for taking off from a standing stop?
Interesting observation on the increased engine braking. Engine braking is a function of restriction in the induction system. Did you change the transmission software so that it shifts differently? If not, then your observation of increased power due to reduced intake restriction is at odds with what you are noting on perceived engine braking.

Unfortunately, I think you'll be in for some disappointment when you strap it down unless BMW has really bad mapping on those cars from the factory.
You cannot simply "add" up manufacturer's claims to come up with a peak power increase. On top of manufacturers using numbers that are always enthusiastically high, gains from one modification to the other are rarely at the same point under the curve. One may gain the most increase at 3200 rpm, while another may add a small amount at 5800. The end point is that you are happy with the changes and the way that the car drives, regardless of real number imrovements or perceptive differences. Dyno numbers at this point won't give you any real data to gauge gains. |

You can't compare the BMW released figures to any dyno results you get. You really need to dyno it stock and then modified on the same dyno to make any claims.

I'd love to hear numbers once its dynoed.
I'm also in Ridgewood often so if you wanna meet up one weekend and see how it does against a bone stock 4.8iS (well xpipe and AFE stage 2 which i'm almost positive gives minimal gains besides sound) I'd be game. Not even trying to be competitive I'm just really curious how much quicker it will be than mine.
