Put a fork in me

IM DONE. Good luck everyone but after my X left me stranded because the coolant system dropped its guts all over the freeway once, only to have the same thing happen at midnight in the middle of nowhere a month later when the alternator decided to die I am done. I've lost count the amount of money I've spent on this vehicle but more importantly how many times it's let me down. I love BMW and hopefully will return to the X club when I can afford a spare 'weekend' car that doesn't matter if it craps itself every other month.

All the best guys and may your luck be better than mine

That's a shame - how many km's was it sitting on? Did you trade it, or selling?

220,000km so its getting on but I would consider it to have many many good years left in it, just not with me

Going to do the trade-in, happy to pay for the convenience this time around. Operation simple man has been enacted

That's really frustrating especially once you think it's gonna last for quite a while after a major repair.
I am way past the point of no return with mine.I am gonna drive it to the ground, actually it's in the waiting list for some paint job
It's easier to bear with the repairs once you have a spare as a daily driver.
I with our wagon had a v8,then I might've considered retiring the X.

I would imagine Australia would be the perfect place to really torture test vehicles, especially since breaking down in the wilderness can be life threatening I am sure. What are the popular older vehicles there for reliability? Land Rovers? Or something else? I'm curious what you guys drive in an environment where failure is not an option.

Probably a diesel Toyota Land Cruiser would be not a bad idea.

Bulk -

I hear ya. I've had mine since new. Most of my issues occured somewhere around the 5 year mark - 10 year mark.

And yes, it was the worst when it was a 90 degree plus day, alternator took a dump, and I was waiting for a tow for about 4-5 hrs.

LandCruisers and Patrols are the default for anyone who needs that kind of vehicle.....

Im at that stage with mine.

Right now it seems that my steering pump is done because its making this weird loud noise. Both axle boot are gone after i replaced them in 2013. One is completely ripped and the other is spitting out grease. i havent seen the slash yet.

But the ignition switch went last year while on vacation. This isnt half the things so far.

I purchased this truck in may of 2013. I am currently looking at a new honda accord.

I just did some mid-size sedan shopping. Before you pull the trigger on an Accord (which is a very nice Japanese sedan), check out the Mazda 6 and VW Passat.
