A little victory ... LED lighting upgrade

A good day and an uncompensated plug:

Bought the ECS Tuning LED light kit for my E53 (Kit is ES2580290) and found the installation has gotten even easier.

The kit says it includes ES2549917 bulbs for the front and rear dome lights (3 each, the center one was a little too big for the hole and required removing the lens to install).

The kit I received this week included bulbs labeled 2549916 for the dome lights and they are small enough to fit in all positions of the dome lights without removing the lens! YAY.

Two of the existing puddle lights were crazy hot when I went to remove them- hard to know if something was wrong with them or if someone "upgraded" to a higher watt bulb, but I am happy to have dodged that bullet.

Lights are bright white and brighter overall. Really brightens things up and makes getting the kiddies belted into the back much easier (I am pretty sure I could live without interior lighting if it was just for me...). The sun visor lights (vanity mirror lights) are MUCH brighter. I imagine the boss will be happy with that.

I don't have rear footwell lights (do have rear door puddle lights), so I ended up with 2 extra of the 36mm festoon lights.

^You can retrofit the rear footwell lights easily, the plugs should be there under the rear seat.

All you need is 2 housings, 4 plastic nuts from the dealer, and about 15 mins to retrofit both of them (you'll also need a utility knife to cut a hole for the housings in the carpet

Awesome, cheap mod. Finished this up last weekend. The housings are really cheap from the dealer (like $10 each) and all the wiring was there and active. No coding needed...

Here are my new rear seat lights with LED bulbs.

^Glad to see you completed it Dave, I also enjoy my rear footwell lights now that they are retrofitted. Would love to retrofit the rear heated seats as well since those are also pre-wired, hard to find used heated seat backs in Dakota leather however, and they would barely ever be used since I probably have backseat passengers twice a year lol

Hmmm Mr. Wong I don't think there's a part number. BMW sews there heaters to the leather so if you want OEM you would have to buy a new seat you might be able to get the rear seat switches from the dealer or a part out on hear. Now if only someone on here modded there rear seat and added heaters and wrote a guide for it. rubbing the my magic lamp... genie I wish for a guide. A writeup on adding heated rear seats.

I should've clarified as I was referring to rear footwell lights retrofit. Thanks for the link and posting that DIY, I found it on the third page there

Here are my new rear seat lights with LED bulbs.

I just added the LED bulbs to my X a few weeks ago. Looking to add those lights as well since I got a few extra bulbs. Were exactly are the wires located ? Because I have no wires under my seats except for the ones going to the fuel pumps.

Lift the rear seat bottom out, remove the plastic trim from the door edge that holds the carpet down, then pull carpet forward to expose the welded on studs that hold the lamp housing. The wire was actually wound around the stud. Measure carefully, then cut the opening in the carpet. I cut it undersized first and enlarged it until it was just big enough.
