My X hit the list on June 1st, shows "Recall INCOMPLETE. Remedy not yet available".
Should read "new airbags not yet available".

The problem is even new airbags are still inadequate.

Yours has a Petri built airbag. But Petri is owned by Takata so we'll see. So far no Petri airbags have been recalled, but if they are you'll see VAGs added to the list as well.

Would it be safer to disengage the airbag?

I agree.
Accidents involving high speeds into stationary objects would provide a number of deaths equal to 50%. Better to take the 1% chance of Air Bag failure. (if that is a true results of engineering bench tests of returned air bags.) I would just drive and not worry...
