Takata Air Bag Recall Info: 2003-2004 X5s

If anyone wondered if their BMW was part of this huge air bag recall...you can see in the updated info below that some e53 X5s built between 2003-2004 are affected.

Also take note that the VIN info is not yet available on the NHTSA website...so those that may be affected may want to keep checking back for more updates:

Well I guess I better stay tuned, 2003 3.0 here, the NHTSA website sends me to a BMW link and I put my 7 of my VIN in and nothing open however?

Yeah...it appears that this recall is so vast that not all the players are ready to handle what's coming down the pike. Not only does Takat have to replace all the airbags from years ago...they still need to supply all the new cars/trucks being built.

This is just a nightmare for all....Takata, the car manufacturers, and the affected owners...the latter with the worst of it all if the bag deploys and they have one of the defective bags. YIKES!

You better get some neck and chest armor as well.

Given the models affected, I am going to guess it is the non sport 4 spoke steering wheel. Can anyone with a non sport wheel run their vin and see of anything comes up? Mine (sport wheel) comes up with squat. I'm just curious and I'll keep checking.

Nothing for me. I have a 2003 e53 3.0L non sport. I signed up to be alerted and will post if things change.

My xi is part of this. The recall notice I received is only for the passenger side airbag.

I don't understand why 02 isn't on this list for e53, but is for e46? I assumed they used the same bags.

Don't be disappointed yet...this recall may not be over. In fact, this was just another update...the VIN data hasn't even been processed & uploaded to the database yet for the list of affected vehicles on that list in the original post above.

Keep checking the website to see when the VIN list gets updated...you may find out that you did make the list if you have a late build 2002 model year.

BTW...wasn't the defective airbags mfg'd in Mexico? Perhaps the 02 e53 airbags came from another location or mfg.
