Vortech will either do a minor $ or major $$ rebuild, or replace unit $$$. At 100k I started to develop bearing noise, and opted to replace unit while going from S-Trim to Si-Trim impeller.
Again, this is part of why it wasn't a $9K car for me.

Really unfortunate that it needs a new blower or rebuild. You're right that the FI kick in the pants should kick in a lot earlier than 4000rpm...

I'm surprised you can find 4.6is cars in good condition for <$10k. Though newer I know, my 4.4i was $10k w/ 109,000 on it... and needed some work. Really nice truck by most people's standards but it still needed a lot by mine.

Checked to see if seller has lowered price again, he pulled the listing. Would bet the seller is parting out.

Was waiting for seller to drop to $9000, then offer $8000. Not worth more to me with around 5k in bodywork it needs (I DIY everything except bodywork).

The EXTREME dirt/dust in the CD/NAV area (last pic in post #65) makes me think there are split body seams in the left/rear, major body issues IMHO. 200k on my '03, and NO dust at all in that area!).

Keen eye. Didn't catch it at first, it was just a thought: "hmm, this looks really dirty", not more. But you're right, I have no dust at all neither in the X, nor the e39 or the e46 in that area. None.

I saw that as well. I just figured the owner didn't ever clean it in 200k miles. However, that might indicate rear impact and/or shoddy bodywork after repair, correct?

Yeah. I've never cleaned in that area, and no dust at all.

Michael!! We meet again, didn't know you had an X5 in your stable! Next time I am in SF we should meet up again.

Sorry about this purchase not working out. Good luck on your quest!

Kills me to know he likely won't do a proper part out of the full S/C kit.

Get that install .pdf folks, Dinan documentation can support you on a full part list.

It kills me to see a rare vehicle neglected/abused/ in general disrepair.

This Dinan 4.6is deserved better treatment then it got in the hands of it's abusive owner/wife (and possibly first owner)!

They should have used a beater Tahoe and garaged that X.

Yep! I have driven S/C and Turbo charged cars before. There is a kick in the pants experience when they hit their sweet spot. I watched the tach / Rev Meter march up to 5000+ RPM and it just wasn't there. As I said, the engine seemed fine from the INPA scan, so there was gobs of power just not what you would expect from something that was supposed to be pushing 475 HP.

If anyone is interested, there is a 2002 4.6 in Fremont that has had the chains and guides done and there is a lower mileage one in Los Angeles area that can be bought for $7K - registered and all.
