I'm curious was there any resolution to your bogging issue? I'm experiencing exactly the same problem with a 2003 E53 4.6is!

On my ’03 BMW X5 4.4i with ~110,000 miles and my ACTRON CP9135 OBD II AutoScanner I can view and reset trouble codes. When this acts up and stalls, no DTC's are set. I wish I could see the live data from the engine controller with this scan tool, but I can not. I am currently tempted to just replace the throttle body but I guessed I am not the first with the issue so I thought I would apply some patience and wait to hear from others that actually experienced a similar issue/failure.
Main items: After engine stalls with key still in 'on' position, throttle body is making vibrating/humming noise. Is this normal? Is this throttle body a part the experienced guys see fail often? I made a video with good recording of the sound, can't seem to attach it so it is on youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IKH...ature=youtu.be Thanks |

I would get a scanner that can read live data. If you have an android phone or tablet you can get the App Torque. You can view Short Term Fuel trim to see if the 02 sensor is adding or taking away fuel. Better to spend some money for a tool to help you determine the problem then to throw parts at it.

There are databases out there that contain known fixes for different vehicles. They advertise and sell subscriptions to aftermarket repair shops but many schools have access for their students/staff. Anyone have access that they can check for this stalling/misfire issue? Or a BMW tech-line employee is even better (not sure if dealership technicians have easy access).
For now I am stuck tracking down a scan tool that will actually read live data stream. |

Upallnight- is there a preferred wireless obdii interface to use with the Torque app?
I wanted to play with this and compare to the laptop software I've been using.

ELM 327 Bluetooth OBD Interfac e. Available on Amazon or eBay.
They also have Wi-Fi- OBD 2 interfaces, but I use the wifi on my tablet to search for DTC codes when I am in the garage so bluetooth work better for me. There are also OBD 2 adapters that can be used with a wired usb connection.

I had this same issue on my '03 4.4 and it ended up being the throttle body like you suggested. The built in idle control unit had packed it in which caused the erratic hunting symptoms. I had to get one second hand $390AUS as dealer would have get from Germany. However, only 3 weeks since being replaced I am getting the same symptoms again. So frustrating!!

I had almost identical symptoms on my 01 4.4 e53 and two days ago I tore off the entire intake system, cleaned TB and icv and reseated all if the spots that had bad connections causing air leaks and I have now been problem free for a couple days. I would start there as it is free to do.

I would suggest coils. I had a hard to trace stumble which got worse to stalling at lights, and then dropped a cylinder. Replaced that coil, ran a week or two, then again.... another coil failed. Now I'm running perfectly on 8 new BOSCH coils from Amazon for $54 each.
