The hitch receiver has been installed over a year ago, but my wife says the hitch is a decal if w/o a wiring connector.
 So I'm taking on this task. After watching the vid on etrailer.com (02' X5 3.0i), I like every detailed instruction, except for the last step. The connector is hanging from top of the license plate. WTF!  I'm not doing that. So I looked into the factory wiring harness, and found out the factory wiring has a rubber (like 2" dia) that goes in to a pre-dilled hole on the body, behind the bumper. That hold can be easily spotted from bottom of the bumper. 1) Take the spare wheel off, you can see a large plastic plate with 4 rivits holding onto the frame. 2) Take the 4 rivits off, expose round hole with a black plastic cap. 3) Punch it from inside, and the cap will fall outside. 4) Run the wiring connector from inside, through the hole, to outside. 5) (Important!) Carefully cut the cap to the center, and put the 4-wire in. Glue the cap together, and when it's firm, put cap back onto the hole. 6) Lock the connector outside in position and zip-tie the wire inside to make sure it doesn't move. Now, put some sealant on both sides of the cap, and wait for it to dry. This will keep any water or moist from coming inside. 7) All the rest will be exactly the same as etrailer video says. aftermarket tow hitch and wiring harness? does this one secure by the rear differential?

Looks nice, good trim job through the cover, and I assume from your having only the 4 point wiring connector [not the round 7 version] that you aren't towing any significant weight with that Curt 'decal.' As we beat to death in the long DIY hitch thread, I would be very leery about towing any significant weight [more than a ton, maybe?] with anything other than the OEM hitch.

You're right, Riggo. I'm planning to tow a 2,000 lbs 5'x8' utility trailer. Not planning to tow anything significant, otherwise I should get the 7-pin connector.
