Yeah it is, I'm just trying to keep my excitement level in check until the truck makes it back and is in my garage ready to be detailed.

I will be documenting the trip in a thread with pics and vids. I also just realized that Dinan headquarters is only 20 minutes from the dealership I am picking the truck up from... so am hoping to be able to stop by there and see exactly what is on the vehicle. I'm sure they keep records by VIN or something.

After doing some reading there was no S2 Dinan 4.8i... just an S1. Either way... still cool. It's still cool even if everything on the vehicle was just a separate add on by one of the PO's. If that's the case he must have spent some good money to get the requisite 10 points to earn the rear Dinan badge.

Update: Just verified that the taxes will not be charged back home when I go to register it here in TX. Just have to show that they were paid in Cali.

Flights have been booked for Thursday morning of next week (couldn't do any earlier unfortunately). Oh well, saved some money on the tickets since there was a little more lead time...

X5 is fully insured now (just in case something happens to it at the dealership) as a CYA policy. Never know what could happen... read to many horror stories on the internets.

Edit: Just received the purchase agreement. Not bad, have to pay CA taxes which is higher than ours, but they have a very reasonable $80 doc fee. Add to that $50 for smogging $29 + $89 for something titling/registration stuff... and that's it. So all-in I'm looking at ~$15800. Not too shabby...

Not bad. I'd wager 16 is pretty good for a well sorted 4.8is, let alone one with a bunch of Dinan goodies.

After flights, gas, hotel, food, and other odds and ends it will be a $17000 X5... but I'm still pretty happy about that. I'm getting pretty anxious as we get closer, only 2 days now, and it's getting hard to contain the excitement.

BTW, Dinan HQ is only 20 mins from the dealership so that is going to be one of our first stops. Not sure what kind of records they keep, but we are going to see how accommodating they are to enthusiasts as I'm hoping to get a list of exactly what is on the truck.

As another question... is there anything I should look out for that would be a trip ender? Cooling system stuff obviously... and I plan to buy a couple of gallons of coolant to take on the trip along with water. Anything else? Maybe I can pay Dinan a fee to throw the X on a lift to have a gander underneath it...

I do... . The smile hasn't left my face since Thursday evening.

I just took pictures off my phone and traveling companion sent me his via drop box. Going to work on a thread with a full travel "blog" tonight. Wanted to do it last night but ran out of time since I worked on the X. Here's a teaser though to keep you guys interested.

Thanks fellas. Daughter just went down for a nap and a few things I wanted to do to the truck didn't take very long so I am going to start working on the log now... look for it tonight.

I'm not nearly as eloquent or witty as propellerhead, but it should be a fun read none-the-less.
