Update: No time to have it checked it out... it's nut up or shut up. Dealer had 2 people go into contract on it and first one to close gets it. Sooooooo... I'm going to be buying my first (and hopefully last) sight unseen vehicle provided I can get them the bank documents first. Fingers crossed.

One question though... he said that if I am driving it home, he HAS to charge Cali sales tax. 7 something %. Texas is 6.25%. When I register it here, I won't have to re-pay taxes correct? He was pretty sure the state could not double dip, but I've never bought an out-of-state vehicle.

I think it's because it's a high volume dealer. They have it priced fairly and just move tons of cars as fast as they can. Not worth it for them to hold a car for a week (even with deposit) if they have a line out the door to buy it already. That's just what I am getting from them anyway. Nice guys so far, and honest it sounds... and I understand that in autos cash talks. So I'm not upset over it.

Good luck crystalworks. Solid car looks like.

Tax won't double dip. In theory CA dealer can't charge CA sales tax, you pay taxes at registration in TX. The finance guy will go over this with you when executing paperwork.

That's what I thought too, and he (sales manager) said if I have it picked up and shipped to me there would be no tax. But if I drove it and he gave me a temp "one-way" tag he would have to charge the sales tax. I know Cali has some weird laws so I wasn't too surprised to hear... so long as I don't have to re-pay when I get home.

In that case, I'd look into shipping, guessing the time +cost of driving from CA to TX vs shipping company charge; you'd probably be equal.

Plus no tax/paperwork confusion.

I nearly bought a car from cali and would have driven it home to WA. They told me that if the car is driven off of the lot onto public CA roads then you must pay CA sales tax. Then when I registered it at home in WA I would pay the difference (wa is 10%). If it were trucked out of CA, even to the other side of the border, then I did not have to pay CA sales tax.

I don't know how that works for you since your tax is less than CA.

REFUND!!! LOL yeah right.

Update: Got everything ready to go to dealer and so it LOOKS like the vehicle is mine. Great rate through USAA and super fast decision... woohoo. Normally their used car rates suck, but not this time. Good because they make it really easy to get the dealer paid and dealers love dealing with them.

Yeah you are going to have to pull the trigger on this one sight unseen if you want to get it. Your obviously starting with what appears to be well maintained unit. These 4.6is and 4.8is are rare. Id say go for it. Even if you were to put a deposit down on the vehicle some of these dealers will sell the unit outright to another that walks into the door.

Nice Imola!

I had almost the same situation, wanted the car so badly and couldn't sleep......kept tossing and turning at night.

I finally bit the bullet and transferred funds.

A day later she was there in "living glory".....my heart and mind went crazy.

Moral of the story.....you just have to take the risk and have to trust people!

Cheers!
