Sport mode shifts closer to redline, and holds the rpms a bit higher. I love driving the X in Sport mode on the highway. i usually have such a grin on my face, when i pull into my driveway, i forget its in sport and struggle to put it in reverse! (I'm one of "those" who back into the carport!)

Shift mode helps a lot. If that's not enough for you... Dinan offers software. I think my 4.8is has it as it shifts a lot more aggressively than my 4.4i did. Like A LOT more aggressively.

I use steptronic a lot and I find that it shifts pretty slow. Is it bad or wear the transmission abnormally if I use sport mode or steptronic

I doubt BMW would add a "feature" that wears stuff out faster. I'm sure they have software programming in there that prevents over-rev and other damaging type of situations.
