IF you have controls that at least let you select temperature and air distribution (no guarantees), you can heat the car to a reasonable amount driving at highway speeds. You won't fog the windows with one person. For summer (a friend had his failure on his FSH during a HOT summer), he still talks about the failure in summer (it was above 40 C / 100 F). You are saving yourself $ on shop labor, saving time from dropping it off and picking it up from a shop (time is money) and some $ on the part (plenty of BMW dealers sell mail order and discount 20 to 25% in the US or you can check with BMW CCA Roundel vendors if you are a member). Isn't it work enough to "do it once, do it right" and have peace of mind?
