e53 4.4 parking sensor fault
this question probably comes up a lot but I believe my situation may differ, basically when I engage reverse I get one long beep and then nothing. hooked the car up to diagnostics and it said all four of the rear sensor and the front centre left. My question is, is it really the case that 5 of my sensors have failed or is their any other item that can cause this sort of fault. Thanks in advance guys

Theres a simple way of finding out which are faulted by sticking your keys in the ignition and turning it to pos 2 but don't start the car (just so you have ignition lights on the dash) then press your parking sensors switch in front of the gear lever....the light should come on and you'll hear the beep then the light will probably start flashing...while its doing that go up to each sensor and put your ear to it and you should hear a clicking if its working if not it needs replacing...simples....hope this helps.

When I got my X the parking sensors didn't work and diagnostics stated that all 4 rear sensors were crook. I discovered that a plug/socket was unplugged. The plug socket is located on the right rear cargo area under the plastic cover in the back corner under the cargo floor cover. If you lift the cargo cover and use a torch you can see the plug and socket up against the rear of the spare wheel well.
Could be that you have a plug/socket problem at the rear and 1 crook sensor at the front. Here's a link to my previous thread. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ng-sensor.html

I have had three rounds of a parking sensor go bad over the years. Same long beep. The codes always have the wrong location, so I don't even try anymore. Have someone trustworthy start the car and put it into reverse to engage it. Walk around with your ear close to each sensor. Working sensors make a very faint clicking sound. I can also feel it if I touch the sensor very lightly when it is operating. Was always just one for me... Used sensors can be found cheaply on eBay.
