These are the caps. I took them out of an e46 BUT I will say they are slightly thinner than the e53 caps.
So many models of Bimmers use them. And yes I siliconed them in this time.

You quoted the wrong part number, the correct one is 51248408859. Not sure if it is easy to swap this whole thing.

I just installed my new set of bumpers. These things are the bomb.
Now the hatch pops up a little bit when released. Closing the older style hatch has
a definite solid feel now. I have the soft close hatch also. Not thinking need those bumpers
anytime soon. For those with the SCA how do you like them?

Just replaced my old ones with the spring loaded ones. What a difference. I have soft close as well, and while it takes more effort to shut the hatch I don't think it's enough to cause any issues with the soft close mechanism. Now if someone would just measure the length, diameter, and coil size of the hatch strut springs I could go grab some at the local Ace.

I do have a question about these bumpers. Mine work great, but should they be
adjusted in height?
Since they compress, not sure if any adjustment is necessary

Nope, the new ones do not adjust like the old ones. Thank goodness! I just installed these and they cured all my rear rattles. X5 is MUCH more pleasant to drive on bumper roads now.
