Rear hatch updated spring loaded stops
Anyone have the part numbers for the updated spring loaded bump stops?
I tried realoem but they only have one part number listed and googling for pics of it showed the standard screw-adjustable type. |

This is a great $60 upgrade!!! It's what the design should have been since day one, but better late than never. I did this to both of my X5s and it eliminated all noises from the back. No more adjusting every few weeks. It's spring loaded!

J, yeah, that's what I'm looking to get these for, hatch has been starting to make noise starting about a year ago. Guys, how do you get these out btw? I tried unscrewing and removing the torx bolt and I couldnt pull the stopper assembly out. |
The new stops do have a spring loaded end, I've confirmed. you can't tell from the photos.
I went ahead and ordered mine and installed them last week. You have to use a 30mm socket for the nut that holds them in the body of the car. Take off each of the rear covers in the trunk (subwoofer on the right, stereo components on the left). I loosened the plastic rear trim on each side, taking out two screws and gently pulling the rear hatch surround trim plastic away so that I could access the nuts for the hatch stops. Flatlander |

Forgot to update I already did this. It was pretty easy. Open the side compartments and reach in to the area behind the stops. They are held in place with a big nut, 30mm IIRC. A deep socket or a standard socket with a short extension and you can unfasten it through the side compartment doors. Just be careful you dont drop the nut and backing plate in the process. It's a bottomless pit down there behind those interior panels. You can also remove the weather strip and screw on the panel to give you a bit of room, but I didnt need to do that. Once the nut and rear backing plate is removed from behind, you can pull the stop out from the front. Assembly is reverse, just put the new stop in and install the backing plate and nut from behind. They are left and right specific and are oriented a certain way, it will all be self explanatory when you go at it. Oh, and yes they look exactly like the old stops but they do have a spring loaded head as explained by everyone here. |
