I would suppose the first place would be my local BMW dealerships parts dept. Or, I could look up the 11 digit BMW part number at sites like Realoem.com or bmwfans.info...then type "BMW xx xx x xxx xxx" into a Google search box to find vendors that sell that part online.

If you can't find the 11 digit part number in the database...then look at the light on the other side. If you take the lens off or look real close at it...it should have either the whole 11 digit BMW part number or the shortened (last) 7 digit part number on the lens.

See item #4 in the diagram and part number index at this link to get the 11 digit part number for the rear lights that are located below the rear seats: RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog. (There's an image icon on the far right of item #4...click on it to verify that's the part you're looking for)

Don't order that one (BMW PN# 63318352832) until you can check if it is compatible...because that lens is for the e38 7 series. You can double-check the accuracy of that 11 digit number using one of the online now part databases like Realoem.com or bmwfans.info.

You need this one below which was used in the e65/e66/e67 7 series and the e53 X5. You can double check the 11 digit part number at ECS tuning or on Realoem.com. It appears the "lens" isn't sold separately...so perhaps the one for the e38 7 series may work...but you'd need to check in to that. But we do know that the whole light assembly for the e53 is the part number below and at the link in my post above.

Lets clarify something here: the pre-facelift models DON'T have foot well light in the rear, which I think is the one being questioned about.
I think Qsilver7 got the correct one. 63316962035

Mine's pre-facelift, and I have the rear footwell lights. So that's not entirely correct. I have a 2002 Sport version if that's any difference.

I pulled mine off - Part #63318352286

Lamp, door entrance rear
From:09/01/1999To:12/22/2004 (ENDED)Weight:0.047 kgPrice:$10.72

Part 63318352286 was found on the following vehicles:

Looks like we're all on the same page now. Thanks for posting back with pics and more info. At least we now know that the same foot well light assembly fits both pre facelift & facelift.

There's a thread over on Xoutpost where some that didn't have the lights installed from the factory...found the wiring harness tucked up below the rear seat. And all it takes is cutting out the hole, buying the light assemblies, and hooking them up to get rear footwell lights. . I can't remember if it was an option level or model year that indicates if the wiring harness is there. Guess it's old age...can't remember as well as I used to.

Any updates on this. My 04 E53 has footwell lights but the lenses are missing on both lights.

Do the ECS tuning lenses fit?
