I agree, the factory jack is not the best jack you could use... but it certainly isn't unsafe if used properly either.

Different perspective, I guess, which is fine. I view jack safety as binary. They're either safe to use, or they aren't. I wouldn't use the widowmaker in my garage on a perfectly level concrete floor. For a few bucks, a scissor jack is a worthwhile investment if you need something better in a roadside emergency, which is what I've opted for - except the E70, which has runflats. Your car your money.
