The E39 MSport/M5 search is over!

After 3 years of looking at E39s, low price vehicles (in need of TLC/major repairs/no service history/poor body repair/some with chassis rust) and HIGH price vehicles (low miles/no accidents/one owner/service history/spotless), I realized the only ones I was willing to own are selling for near 50% MSRP!

After a trip to NJ and 2 weeks driving my Moms 2005 W211 E 320, I fell in love once again with the Dynamic massage seats, and the side bolsters that inflate to keep you from sliding across the seat in turns (drove it a decade ago for 5hrs straight and felt refreshed afterward).

Turns out she is picking up a 2016 E Class in the spring, and the dealer is lowballing the trade-in value of this '05. Worked out a fair price with her.

This is a dealer only serviced, full history, never hit, one owner, no snow (she NEVER drives when roads are snow/ice/slush covered), garaged, SPOTLESS MB (even the same TiAg color as the X). AND............Wait for it........18,000 miles!!!

I will be flying to NJ in April to sign the papers and driving back to Texas with it!

I've already been looking for 19" staggered (8.5/9.5) lipped wheels for it (2nd pic), want wheels similar to my X5 wheels (and Vredestein Ultrac Vortis of course).

I guess it's time to learn the MB DIY process!!!

Can't say I'm not disappointed. Still seems like a good daily driver and you also know all the maintenance history with low mileage.

Sorry you miss out on the M5 experience though

Yeah, the good M5/MSports with manual trans are still in high demand.

The thought of this MB being traded in below value made my head hurt!

The CEO won't be happy with a 3rd set of OE take-off wheel/tires in the garage, but I will!

I like the body kit on the bottom one. My brother has a Merc (I forget the model, but it's a '15 I think.) He spied an AMG and was like.. WOW! I want wheels to make my car look like that! I was like, yeah.. and bumper and suspension and body kit.

My wife wants one of the smaller AMG's to replace her E46. I forget the model, but it was the size of a 3 series and was force fed. I remember you could fit the intercooler and turbo from the big AMG and the thing was a beast. I don't know what they make now that is the same size and that much fun.

I have a buddy who went from an E39 to a big Merc after he got hit in the BMW. Said the thing was older and more solid than his '97 540. I'd love a long wheel base one for a trip car and a smaller one for the wife to zip around town in.

Enjoy it. I'd totally hit an 18k mile Merc.

This is my dad's low mileage Merc:

Took me over 10 years to find my MSport. In my early 20's, just starting my IT career, I sat in one at the NY International AutoShow in 2002 and fell in love. Want. When the E60 debuted 2004, I was so thoroughly disgusted, I vowed that one day, I'll find my pristine 2003 540i/6 MSport. The M5 was always a dream, but I remained practical.

I searched and searched, but living in the northeast always yielded high mileage rust buckets. I never gave up, receiving email alerts from autotrader, cars.com, ect on a monthly basis for years. Then, that damn article on Jalopnik in Nov '14 made it f'n impossible, because the cat was out of the bag and everyone was onto them.

It wasn't until last spring when mine finally came along. A lifetime San Diego, one owner car, low miles, folder full of dealer receipts.

The story gets even better, through complete randomness, the dealer was a guy I went to High School and played football with, back in NY. Talk about a small world.

Congrats on your Benz - but as you can see in my case... it was a looooong love affair

Damn...I was just about to post that I am seriously wanting to go back to MB playing with a CLS55 for a few days.

It was not running so well when I drove it and I replaced the intercooler coolant pump. After that, daaaaaaamn! Dat torque!

Comfort with the Airmatic is better than the X even on rubber band 19" 30-series tires.

So I am also looking for a nice 211 55 or maybe a 219 55 now!

And all the upgrade opportunities...A pulley and tune gets you past 500 hp, and headers and a few more will get you to 600...and you wont see any mention of fragile engines/transmissions on the Mercedes sites lol!

Thanks for the link.

I'm sure to spend some time on there, starting with the cracked GPS antenna cover (above rear window) that needs replacing.

Having looked into the W211 models in '05 (helped her choose which E-class was right for her), I found it odd the E320 sport pkg car actually had more grip on the skidpad then the E55 AMG pkg (Car and Driver test).

Even with that detail, I wish I had told her the additional $25k over base price was a deal and what to buy.

The W211 E55 AMG will match a Ferrari 575 Maranello F1 from 0 to 120, and jump from 50 to 70 .5 sec quicker.

And no balance shaft wipe out problems with the E320. Nice ride

Thanks Jay.

I would be willing to have the balance shaft issues with the 516 ft/lbs of torque @ 2600 RPM that come with it. Viper level grunt!
