RADIO CULPRIT ELECTRIC DRAW/FIX?

After 2750. dollars a mechanic found what may have been the real problem with my 3.0 X5 2001 with 206K miles.
The darn radio has a short, it was drawing down the battery, setting off the ABS/trifecta lights and wacky codes. I hate to think I had to change the ABS module, steering angle sensor and programming that didn't actually fix any of those problems - I pulled the radio tonight and now I need to find a professional, reputable place to have it fixed. I don't imagine Best Buy has the radio or ability to install a new aftermarket. Besides I really like the Media bridge when it works.
Oddly, this issue was also messing up the cruise control. Can you believe it?
A radio. Really BMW?
Help...

What most people consider the radio is really the MID unit. The real radio is located in the trunk.

My headunit shorted out because the po put coins into the tape deck for some reason? Took it to the stealership and they wanted $900 to replace it, so I decided I might as well take it apart and see if somehow I could fix it. Comes apart easy with a few philips screws and I noticed a tiny transistor had cracked in half. Took a chance and found the part online and I ordered 5 just to be safe cost about $6 shipped. 10 minutes of soldering later and the new part worked and the headunit was fixed. I figured it was already broken so how could I mess it up more? $6 in parts and two hours of my time are a lot cheaper than the stealer's price. I have some extra transistors if you need them pm me.

Thanks , I appreciate it and will keep it in mind. I think I found a repair company in CA. Worse case I go aftermarket, it is 15 years old now.

If you know how to solder then I would suggest taking it apart first to visually inspect the components on the circuit board. It is pretty easy to disassemble the case of the headunit. Just a few small phillips screws.

I did a similar fix(capacitors) to my sisters TV and saved hundreds on new 1080i, but I knew what the problem was because the capacitors expand. Not sure what to look for wit this radio short.

Can you not just get a replacment unit off evilBay? Maybe that's the easiest option...?

The little black transistors crack in half so they're pretty easy to spot. Sorry for the late reply, had a busy weekend.
