Calling gurus for DXC8 (DSC ) diagnosis on facelift X5
But this is totally new to me: Vehicle is a 2005 BMW X5 3.0i DSC4x4 and ABS as BRAKE light are all on. Initially before I replaced the module (see below) I had all 3 lights come on. Trans fail safe mode As well as no tachometer and coolant gauge jumped to the RED (obviously not overheating). Also A/C turned off (fail safe mode) I was throwing all kinds of errors within the ABS module. Falling back on my knowledge with the BOSCH 5.7 ABS module I was showing all the signs of a failed DSC/ABS MODULE. Come to find out the facelift model X5's don't use a 5.7 module. It is now a DXC8 module. I find out through my supplier that a brand new controller can be bought. They keep them in stock so I figure they must fail left and right since they have them in stock and they are even available separately from the hydro unit. So I purchased a brand new module and successfully coded the module via PASoft (I was unsuccessful trying to code via INPA for some reason).... And performed a steering wheel calibration. No dice, all the lights still on. I cycled the key and boom. Lights are off. But that was only temporary. 8 out of ten times I cycle the key the lights turn stay on. But the other 2 out of ten times the lights all turn off Here are the codes I am throwing. Some major CANBUS codes. I am totally stumped ![]()

Have you checked the state of the battery? Weird thing happen when voltage gets low.

Yes. Battery is new and alternator is charging correctly. All preliminary checks have been conducted.
I have something going wrong over the can bus is where I believe my problem lies |

Next time....disconnect battery before changing modules.
And or Did you cut/splice any wires recently? Try clearing EM and IM via INPA then re-scan. ![]() That will eliminate "Most" of your shadow codes. Re-check codes via PA Soft Then please Let us know how you go.

I tried to diagnose again today but same outcome.
Sometimes I cycle the key and everything is great. But I turn the engine off and on and all of a sudden the trifecta lights and when i scan via PASoft it cannot "find" the ABS module (not found) If I cycle the key or wait a few minutes the module can be found again and all the lights have gone away. Here are my codes. Don't pay attention to whether they are shadow or present codes because it all depends if the module is found. And if it is found then it shows up as a shadow code. ![]() Now this code always seems to popping up when the ABS MODULE is found and I have no idea what it means

All the shit seems to be pointing at the SAS, steering angle sensor.
At the same time you have X drive, and the one that sets off the brake, ABS and DSC is the shitty plastic gear in the actuator on the transfer case. You should take that actuator off, like 3 o 4 screws. Mark up where the unit is before you do anything else. The way to do this, is to make a line across that plastic drive that goes into the tcase, and draw line across the entire unit. Because when you pull the little motor from the actuator, that gear will turn. But you want to put it back into its original position to inspect it. If it is worn, flip it 180, adjust it for the motor insertion, and put it back on the car.

SlickGT1. Appreciate the input.
I've heard about the transfer case gear wearing out but I was under the impression that only plagued X3's. But I guess xdrive is xdrive What make you think SAS? I am getting nothing but canbus errors across the board. |

Weirdo staff can happen if ignition switch is bad and that can cause CANBUS errors. I wouldn't be buying any parts, even flipping the transfer case gear until troubleshooting gets closer to the root cause, even if I had to get diagnostics done by a BMW tech.

I would start looking at all the connections going into the modules (under the hood) for water damage.
This is not a SAS fault. |
