2003 4.6is Headlight Projectors

Okay so i know we have a number of different routes that people can take in terms of upgrading their pre-facelift headlights. What I want to know is the xenon projector in the 2003 headlight a good design in reference to todays projectors or would a evoX-R projector blow it away? Meaning if one wanted to keep the stock looking headlight but up grade the light would a newer projector offer better lighting and beam dispersion? has anyone done this upgrade on their X?

Might be easier to just open up the light, clean the lenses of the projectors and reflector. Replace the tired hid bulb with a new one and call it good.
Just a thought.

Yes plenty of us have EvoXR projectors - they are really good output and are bi-xenon compared to the stock pre-facelift projector (Hella E39) - clear lens and a chromed bowl, very nice output.

Your lights most likely cannot be baked open on your 2003 so a lot of us buy the Spyder headlights and swap the internals out - TECN1K did it recently, I built a set for mam4.6 a couple years back, and did my own last year - gives a nice facelift look but upgraded xenons.

And yes 100% get a new pair of OEM bulbs

Do not use bi-xenon on PFL car only if it would be from factory! I was thinking as well to put in bixenon for high beam as well! It takes 10secs to work normally for xenon beam....and if u r switching xenon block ON and OFF so often...it is not normal! I was thinking to code fog lights for turns to get ON fog light when car is turning! I built in xenon in fog lights and changed my mind! It is very beautiful now when fog lights and lower beam are the xenon and same colour! I am using 6000K! Thinking may be to put in 8000K or 10000K! I have bixenon for lower beam and fog lights we can call it like that!

@gatojurko - Bi-xenon is not what you're describing. Bi-xenon uses a gate in the projector to transition from low-beam to high-beam. RB is not talking about putting an HID in the high beam.

Also, I would highly recommend not using anything over 6000K. The prior owner of my X5 had put 10000K bulbs in and they were worthless. I don't know about where you are, but I think anything over 6000K is illegal in the US, as well as being pointless from a quantity of light perspective. I changed from 10000K crappy purple-colored no light producing bulbs to OEM Osram's and the light difference is incredible.

BTW, I love the color of your X5, and I'm jealous you have a diesel!

Thanks for describing I am not expert in lights! Just wrote up what I've been heard from somebody else! So far we do not have limits on Kelvins! I love when light beams are really white! As I have seen in pictures purple are 12000K! I could be wrong...and my 6000K are white I was thinking that 8000K could be more whiter!
I am from Latvia...mostly we have 3.0d here! To have gasoline it is very expensive!
Actually 3.0diesel is much better than 3.0i! U can tune up diesel take out cat empty mufflers like I did it everything...and that diesel is flying like a rocket
Yes, colour is beautiful and led lights in the wheels during the night are awesome! Not many x5 has dark blue I guess

Love my Spyders with the Evo-XRs that Jay swapped in for me. I was blown away with the clean, sharp cutoff, and very clean light coming from 4300k bulbs I put in. There is no comparison to the stock projecters, so much better... Plus you get an updated look on the front end...
