Change all the bushings in the valve body. They wear and can cause pressure spike which in turn will ruin any drums. Plenty of good videos on Youtube showing how to disassemble a ZF 5hp24 trans.
Here's a few professional shops that post some great videos. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWa...yLyQ7zjW9LF-xg https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuJ...1BP8SRqN0AKfZw Great info can also be found on the Range Rover forums and Jaguar forums.

Thanks
Going to replace all the bushings and get a valve body rebuild kit, ZF 5HP24A (works for X5) Transmission Super Rebuild Master Bundle, upgraded "A" Clutch Drum, and High Energy Lintel Frictions. Also a remanufactured torque converter. I should have rebuilt it when I upgraded to an extended spline front driveshaft and rebuiltthe transfer case with a new chain. Live and learn |
