I understand what a core charge is and i agree is common practice. It doesn't matter in this case. I don't care who eats the fees, sending money as a part of an ebay transaction outside of the original purchase (let alone as a gift) is asking to get scammed. You don't walk into your FAP, pay for an axle with a receipt, then pay the core charge with cash and no receipt. You pay it once, all on the same invoice and as a part of the grand total. If and when the core is returned the core charge will be refunded from that total amount.

Completely different scenario. You're dealing with a local store compare with dealing with someone over the internet. You don't have the other party (Paypal) to add an additional fee to the transaction. $4.50 may not seems like a whole lot of money but multiply that by 100 customers or 1000 customers and that fee really begins to add up.

I always look at the seller reviews and like I mentioned before the seller had only 1 negative review. All of his other reviews by people that brought the parts were good.

Then you add the fee to the cost. It's that simple. It's not a different scenario. Your side transaction is out of contract, it's not protected, it's not recorded.

Folk here are trying REALLY hard to help you but you gotta do a couple of things for us if you want our help: -

1. Follow up on questions put to you.
2. Follow up on threads you start.

I'm NOT digging at ya - just keen to help you out as much as we can but you gotta help us help you.

So have you looked under the car yet? What's the damage.
Sorry about that. I guess I see now that I've been jumping all over a bit. Didn't realize. I just know that these particular items I know I definitely will need. Still saving funds to purchase while still doing research and learning the repairs. Also, I am in the middle of keeping the s70 running and about to start school for auto and diesel. Throw in a 1 and 2 year old and I just haven't had time to get the thing jacked up and snap pics. I guess I'll won't get back on here til that happens. Won't happen again.

Personally, I think you are fine with out the pics. Your descriptions and "symptoms" have been clear enough to point you in the right direction. I think you have narrowed in down to 3 possible reasons why your X5 did what it did. And the threads on this site tend to expand beyond the original reason for the post since it usually turns into a post by post chat room. Nothing wrong with that. Keep us posted and ask away. I have learned quite a bit from the input that follows.
