Help ASAP please. Transmission pan gasket or not?

Did a search on this w/o any luck. I'm doing a transmission fluid/filter change per DIY on this site (2006 x5 3.0i auto). The filter kit from Pelican Parts came with a pan gasket but noticed the pan I took off doesn't have one (or it appears to be kinda built into pan). It looks like it was mostly just metal-on-metal. The gasket looks like it fits - i assume i should use right on top of the old one, right? Or do I need to find a different gasket or just put it back on with the original only? Thanks!

Nevermind. Just realize the old gasket is has a metal inner and the one from Pelican Parts is all rubber. Which is going to make it a little tricky to line the screw holes up with the rubber one, but should be able to make it work.

Yes, the more expensive filter kit will have the metal with rubber gasket, makes it a bit easier. I wouldn't hesitate to reuse the original metal one either.

Yeah, in retrospect I should have gone with a new metal-type gasket or put the original one back on. It does seem like the rubber one kinda squeezed out around the screws when I torqued them to spec (10Nm), but seems to working for the time being at least. Thanks.

The original gasket is more robust better made gasket then the one you got from pelican.

Oops sorry I didn't see this before I responded with my post.

No worries. Live and learn I guess. If I ever drop the pan again (hopefully not) I'll put an oem-type gasket on there.
