Can't Find the Right Replacement Clutch :( 2004 BMW X5 3.0 l6 6 Speed
Sorry to join to ask a mere question, but I have ran out of places to turn. My clutch recently gave out on my 2004 BMW E53 3.0. I ordered a LUK 03-078 clutch kit from Rock Auto (was classified as a compatible clutch for my model). However, once the transmission was removed, it was clear this clutch would not fit. The pressure plate looked much different, and the disc itself seemed to be too thick (as we considered just using the original pressure plate as a last resort). It seems it is pretty rare to find an X5 with a manual transmission, but does anyone know what type of clutch I may need to get? The pressure plate had this number on it: E63 08 The disc had: 21.27-7 526 600 I also attached a few different photos of the factory clutch. Thank you in advance for the time/help! Cheers! |

Pretty rare that a clutch goes - did you just pick up the 6MT X or have you had it for a while?
Anyway, have you tried the dealer to source the clutch kit for you? If RockAuto is giving you the wrong part, send it back and get your money back - for your 6MT I'm finding part # 21207546378 - did that part cross reference with the Luk kit you bought from RockAuto? You can get the Luk kit or Genuine BMW kit for $20 more https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Sit...h/21207546378/

According to realOEM, the clutch and all of the related parts are the same on the E60 5', E46 3, E83 X3, and E53 X5(Facelift). The only thing that doesn't match is the actual clutch kit. I wonder why..

Thank you for the responses!
I did send it back this week and am awaiting the refund . If I search part #: 21207546378 The photo actually looks similar to the non-compatible pressure plate I had previously: New BMW E53 Clutch Kit DMF x5 2004 2005 2006 Luk 03 077 21207546378 | eBay So I am not sure that model is right. It also lists: OE # 21 20 7 546 378, 21.20.7.546.378 Where my clutch had: 21.27.7.526.600 |

Ricky Bobby - I bought it with about 100k on it 3.5 years ago.
It now has 134k on it. I have a suspicion the previous owner was not the best with operating it. |

tecboy99 - I actually did think the E46 clutch looked the most similar when I was searching for this previously. I am just hoping there is a way I can confirm this.
You can kind of see the pressure plate similarities in this photo: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...zQ-hoC17vw_wcB |

If you search that part number your clutch had ^^ That is a part number for a clutch plate only (using RealOEM) which cross references E83, E46, E53, and E60 The reason the part number 21.20.7.546.378 should be what you are using is because that is the part number for complete clutch kit (plate, disc, and throwout bearing) Also - perhaps the disc/plate were updated over the years so its possible it might look slightly different than your original factory installed plate? Either way its not an E53 unicorn, as the E83 and E60 and all E46 6MT used the same clutch kit.

Pressure plate has seen too much heat and appears scored. Regardless should not be reused after that many miles, nor should the throwout bearing.
As long as there is enough adjustment for the clutch fork to release the clutch and the clutch fits without interference with the pressure plate the thicker disc shouldn't matter. As long as the bolt pattern on the pressure plate and the height of the part are the same so there is no risk of interference with the bell housing that should be fine as well. But, rather than risk putting it all together and finding the parts won't work together, I would purchase the clutch kit, and if that still concerns you, I would talk directly to a sales person and also verify the information with another vendor because of the rarity of your application or purchase the parts from the dealer so there no aftermarket risk of being wrong. (I realize what salesmen are there to do and there limited knowledge sometimes).

Hi, this is a parts list I had on hand when I did a clutch on my 2006/06 X5. Everything fitted perfectly except out of a clutch kit, throw out bearing did no fit on to Throwout guide tube, Called FCP EURO and they sent me an OEM Throwout bearring. Everything from this guys come with with lifetime warranty, not sure if that covers oils
I had also installed "Short Shifter Kit" while gearbox was off and replaced all rubber bushing around the shifter mech. Please be sure to check your dual mass flywheel for play/bounce, if it is warned out, it is pointless to throw whole new Clutch in without replacing the flywheel - most likely it will not last very long. FWIW, I believe GreenDragon went with a UUC LWFW and clutch kit, you could ask them what works or get their set up.
