Help ID this vac? line off the firewall?

I was working under the intake manifold changing the duel temp sensor (drivers side) and either pulled out or stumbled on this loose line. I think I found where it it belongs by feel and lowering my iPhone down to take a photo. What I found was a frayed 2" long hose with what looks like a metal restricter in the center. I taped it up and got it back together but would like to replace this tube section but have NO CLUE as to what it is and what component to look under.
the first photo is the end where it comes out of the firewall between the 2 heater hoses.
second photo is where it attaches under the intake manifold (back of the engine) and 2 of the ports on this component have what seem to be plugs.

probably not going to be a big help - I never saw it, only by sticking the photo down and randomly taking photos did I get this image.

I was working under the intake manifold at the cabin side of the engine. This component was to the left and a little lower than where the dual temp sensor is bolted into the block. I was able to pull off that frayed tube in the photo, it was about 2 inches long I thought I would just replace it with a piece of tubing but like I said it had some sort of metal restrictor in the center, then from there it was connected to the tube that runs between the heater hoses by way of plastic tubing connector.

my 2004 looks different. 3 heater hoses(dual zone heat) at firewall with no vacuum line in between but it does look like there is a plug or blank spot where your vacuum line is. I was going to say it's probably vacuum for the heater controls and the metal thingy was a check valve but I think all the HVAC actuators are stepper motors. You could just try it and see what doesn't work and/or what codes come up.
