2002 3.0d Aux Belt

Hi All,
Had an incident where my aux belt pulley bracket (nr alternator) sheared, replaced the bracket and pulley, but can't for the life of me figure out how the belt goes back on?

Does anyone have a decent diagram or picture of how this should go at all?
It's a UK (RHD) 3.0d if that's any use...

TIA
Nathan

Do you have a picture of that broken bracket and pulley?

Typical case is that belt is routed below the lower pulley under alternator when it should go above. That changes the force direction on the pulley and the bracket breaks.

This picture is originally for E39, but the engine is the same M57.

Hey Calvurion,
Pic attached, this was after we took it off, the second pulley wheel is nothing to do with the bracket that broke, but had to be removed so we could get to the bolts on the bracket.

Cheers!

Looks very typical failure. If you have rib marks on the old lower pulley you can see if the belt ribbed side has run there when it should contact the back side of the belt.

Here a quick illustration what the wrong route causes.

It does indeed have rib marks on it! So it looks like someone had installed it incorrectly?

Thank you very much for the diagram, this will make things much easier!

Not the first and not the last case where the belt has been installed incorrectly causing this bracket failure.

Last quick one, I'm assuming the belt goes straight between the 2 pulleys at the top? The top part of the image is trimmed off
