Stereo Upgrade
I see there has been a lot of write ups on aftermarket radios, I just can't seem to find the right link for what I'm looking for. Does anyone have any luck with the direct fit Radios you see on eBay from China? I want a stereo that will still have the on board computers stuff (like gas mileage). I don't care about Navigation. I have that on my phone. Any help would be great. I have a 04 4.4 with navigation and no DSP.

found these links doing a google search titled "bmw dynavin e53 x5 install":
http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...tall-pics.html http://www.xoutpost.com/miscellaneou...placement.html http://www.jandtdistributing.com/col...00-2006-bmw-x5 BTW, when you remove the nav screen...you remove the component that was designed to display the systems that sends data to it. The Nav monitor (or MID in BMWs without nav) is the multi-informational display for the audio/clock/OBC/DSP/phone systems. When you remove it (the nav monitor or MID)...you no longer have a way to start/stop/set/reset/adjust the components that are connected to it...those component use the MID or NAV monitor to communicate with you. {Nav monitor set-up}

The best you're going to get is re-routing and reinstalling the head unit somewhere else in the vehicle. Many have moved the MID units to the glove box. Others have installed MIDs and even a Nav head unit in the rear wheel well where the CD changer, nav DVD drive, etc are located. You won't get that info in your aftermarket unit, but you'll have access to reset it and can view it in your cluster and cycle through with the stalk.

X5 Radio upgrade
By your comment I'm going to assume that you don't realize that my current stereo no longer works and that I don't have Bluetooth for my phone and music. So any system that can do that would be a upgrade to me and I don't care where it is made. Oh wait, they are all made in china these days.

Nope I didn't realize it. But that may be because you never mentioned
any of that in your initial post. ![]() Quote:

I am using a pioneer double din DVD/usb/bluetooth radio with the DSP amp connected. Rear view camera also. t can be done depending on which radio you have. I also have my steering wheel controls!

I have Eonon one - latest android based system.
I am very happy with it and GPS is great too. Installation, I had to cut out inner housing and it fit as OEM. |
