Plenty of codes- misfires

Hi all! Need some help and advice. I have been getting codes:

P0363 misfire deteced- fueling disabled
P1357 misfire cylinder 8 with fuel cut off
P1345 misfire cylinder 2 with fuel cut off
P1355 misfire cylinder 7 with fuel cut off
P1349 misfire cylinder 4 with fuel cut off
P1351 misfire cylinder 5 with fuel cut off
P1347 misfire cylinder 3 with fuel cut off

So I understand that I need to replace spark plugs, but I read that it could have something to do with my ignition as well. Can someone shed some light on what this means? Also from reading on the forum I saw that some folks replaced spark plugs and still had the codes. Anything else I need to do or to look for?

Thanks in advance.

Not necessarily yet. Plugs are not the only things that can cause that.

Personally I would look a bit more, preferably with a BMW code reader, unless plugs are due for replacement via visual inspection or preventive maintenance.

Wow, you're running on only two good cylinders.

Misfire in these days of computer-controlled engine does not necessarily mean bad spark plugs or bad coils. A computer can detect the rotational speed of the crank after a cylinder has fired and if it is less than the rotation speed of other cylinders and count the number of time it detects a slower rotational speed. After x amount of times the computer counts the slow rotational speed of the crankshaft for that cylinder the computer will log a trouble code and shut the injector down to prevent damaged to the cat converters.

Once the injector is shut down that is when you can feel the misfire because that cylinder is dead.

You need to look at real-time data such as fuel trims, spark advance, etc in order to determine what is the problem. Otherwise throwing parts at it get really expensive and probably won't fix the problem. Could be something as simple as a vacuum leak.

Thanks for the responses. It's sitting up and hopefully I can get it looked at by next weekend and will post my finds. Also I have the software and plug from the guy in Bulgaria. Should I use that? I don't know how to hook it up or operate it which is why I never tried. I was afraid I would mess something up if I did the wrong thing. Is there a guide to using it anywhere? Thanks again!

For real time data you can just get a bluetooth OBD II adapter and an APP such as Torque or OBD Fusion. Setting up the Bulgarian software on a computer is not for the faint of heart.

That's kind of what I thought about the software that it would be a sure challenge. I have the OBD that plugs in. Does it have to be Bluetooth?

Nope doesn't have to be bluetooth, it just happens most are nowadays.

Yup the OBD real time info will hopefully shed more light on that. The Bulgarian software would be better if you can get it working, but for now I guess you can start with OBD and see if it gives you clues.
