Keep MID or Replace, main goal is bluetooth

So...I've looked at a lot of the threads on replacing the MID. My ride is a 2003 e53. No bluetooth (apparently I missed that by a tear! lol!). Currently have an XM plug and play running through FM. My goal is to add bluetooth.

I know I lose some functionality if I replace the MID. From what I've read, it looks like the GROM is really the best alternative in keeping the MID. Just trying to gauge the best options. Others include a $50-$60 bluetooth speaker with the phone functionality. I would prefer to use my stereo system ,but that means either replacing the MID or a GROM type solution.

Again, I've poured over most of the threads and it seems if I keep the MID GROM is the way to go. Any newer experiences in replacing the MID and what those units look like/performance? Another option is a Parrot type setup. Again, not my 1st choice but definitely an option.

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

I have the Grom on my 2001 X5 with the DSP system with the MID display. Really like the bluetooth option which let me connect my phone for callls as well as streaming music from my phone to the X. Most of the steering wheel button works from volume to skipping tracks.

I have an old 01,x5 with the biz class sound system. Not the dsp. Years ago I purchased a mediabridge and kept all functionality. Than, about 6 months ago the MID had a short. I set the MID to CD pack in the trunk and than disconnected the MID. It works beautifully with my iphone 4, 5 and 6. All the functions and no more short issues for about 150.bucks, minus the iphone.

I recently installed a box and cable that allows for Bluetooth, Aux cable, USB and phone mic. DSP must be "No" and it takes the place of a CD changer (which we didn't have). All functionality is retained (daughter elated!).
