At the safeLite here in the DFW area the BMW part number for comfort glass produces a glass that does not have the IR shielding/film within the glass. So you would have to find a vendor that carries the PG branded glass and you would have a better shot at getting the IR shielding/film since they yield the comfort glass for BMW. Then you would have to visually verify. Outside of this process just order comfort glass from BMW.
That is weird Jay about the Pilkington glass - for future reference to members, if you want to be sure you are getting the OE (obviously order from BMW) or exact OEM laminated comfort glass (made by PGW for BMW) - use this picture to give your glass shop, Safelite, etc, and have them order it by the part numbers on the glass to get either the OE or PGW OEM version - my PPG OE (green tinted) windshield also has the 43R-00029 part number, so I presume that it denominates what fits E53's - I assume the other part numbers on the glass are what indicate the comfort glass -

Hope this helps!

Sorry RB I should have written out that by PG I am referring to Pittsburg Glass not the Pilkington. I should have said PGW so as to not create confusion.

^^Ah ok so you got PGW (Pittsburgh Glass Works)? I thought your first post said you received Sekurit windshield? If PGW, do your part numbers on your glass match the part numbers on this glass in the pic I showed you?

Here is the OE glass posted previously in this thread (we really should sticky this somewhere in the forum the pics of the OE glass and the PGW branded, without roundel, which is the only difference I can see) - note that the BMW glass with PGW branding matches the PGW glass without roundel with all part numbers perfectly -

The body shop had the comfort glass part number and what was installed was the Sekurit but with not IR film in between. So because it was not what I had asked for they have elected to get the comfort windshield from BMW which at this point is manufactured by PGW. I only brought up the safelite version because I investigated further on the comfort glass and was curious as to what they would install. So even with the comfort glass part number from BMW all they had was the Pilkington which matches the part number but carries no IR film. So visual verification and request of a specific brand may be your only guarantee in getting the correct glass through a glass distributor/installer. So as of right now I driving around with the Sekurit glass and once the BMW comfort glass comes in I'll have it installed.

Ah ok - understood - you confused me with Pilkington and Sekurit -

Yes that is conclusion - take the pics of PGW glass or BMW glass I posted to your glass shop and be sure that is what they order - visual confirmation only - unless you order from BMW directly.

Okay so the BMW comfort glass was installed today. Oh my what a difference one can tell with the heat in the interior of the vehicle. This is good stuff. If you should have to change a windshield in your X5 I would highly recommend the comfort glass.

Yes they did eat the labor and cost of the first windshield. This one cost me $200 more than the original install.
