So X53Jay4.8 and BHenrich, have either of you tried wearing polarized sun glassed while driving the X5 and comfort glass?
All my sunnies are ploarized and I'd hate to install this comfort glass only to realize I now need to buy new sunnies too.

I wear Maui Jim's that are polarized, and my wife wears Ray Ban's that are polarized. I have not had any problems, and my wife has not complained, and she would...

There is no problem with wearing polarized glasses with this windshield. You will be fine with your spectacles

What should the comfort glass cost? I have some chips and asked a local BMW dealer's body shop and they quoted over $1k for part no. 51317064863, 'with rain sensor'. What gives? Any idea what comfort glass for an E53 should cost?

I found the other thread noting the real oem link - it shows the part no. as 51318408529 for the comfort glass, without rain sensor, at around $850 for the BMW OE version. I'll look for the part no. off pictures in that thread, too, which seems to be a replacement glass.

At that price it should be comfort glass. Just make sure that you have the correct part number that references the comfort glass. Keep in mind you can get the glass from a glas vendor such as PGW. That could save you a few hundred dollars.

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
^This - especially since we have learned lately that PGW is the OE manufacturer for the BMW glass (the one with Roundel) - if you search I believe e30cabrio's thread he has pics of the roundel glass and they match up with X5SND's pictures of his PGW comfort glass (same manufacturer part number just difference in Roundel)

You will have to verify that you get the correct glass with safelite. If they quote yo $300-$400 its not the comfort glass. Its going to be in the $550-$650 range.
