Cluster LCD brightness issue

Hi. When I bought my 2001 E53 3.0d it had aftermarket headlights but the seller also gave me the original Xenons.

It had an issue where the LCD (with mileage, warnings etc) on the cluster was not too bright. Switching lights on should dim it and off bright it again but it made no difference, always as though the lights are on but just the LCD.

I changed the bulbs - No difference.

I had the original headlights fitted again as I did not like the aftermarket but the guy who installed them told me the wiring is a little messed up and since he is not electrician he cannot fix it.

All the lights seem to function, dims, xenons, highbeams etc but it always gives me an error "check low beams" and it did not solve the brightness of the LCD.

When I ran "all tests" in INPA when it cycled through the controller unit of the lights it did actually brighten the display and then dim it again.

So I guess there is a wiring issue somewhere but I have no idea where to start ?

I was just reading this thinking if anyone has done this procedure. I have several pixels out that won't light up at all. Wondering now if this will help you in anyway.

Where the "aftermarket lights" halogen (aka not xenon/HID?) I ask because xenon/HID lights requires that the lowbeam "cold check" be coded off since there isn't an actual bulb (halogen or incandescent) that would provide continuity during the cold check. Thus, if you install xenon/HID headlights...low beam cold check should be coded off...this will prevent the warning to CHECK LOW BEAMS when you have installed xenon/HID headlamps.

{see the last sentence in the 1st paragraph under BULB MONITORING in the image below}
