2001 X5 rear speaker inop

As the title states, upper speakers in rear door don't work. Bought 2 new speakers but still not working. The lower 6 inch speakers are fine. I'm looking for answers before I tear the whole car apart. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hold on here if the two upper rear speakers are inoperable then its highly unlikely that both speakers would be blown. You have a problem with the signal reaching the two speakers. You will want to check the signal from the amp that feeds these two speaker to see if anything is being generated before tearing into the door panels.

Stupid question, will I have an amp without having DSP?

I would imagine that a there has to be some sort of amplification for the audio system even if you do not have DSP. You are going to have to determine if the channel for both of those units are being fed a signal.

Just a thought, would it hurt anything to tie the midrange speaker wiringto the bass speaker wiring in the door?

When I lost sound on left side of car it turned out to be the BM53 (or BM54 for others) radio amp that had blown two channels. Got them repaired and upgraded and now the sound it back and even better than before.

Yes - You will get the wrong frequency signal to the bottom speakers. Those mid-bass drivers are designed to fill out the sound of the X5. You should just check out the signal feed from the amp on those channels. The amp is at the back of the vehicle. In addition if the channels are bad on the amp then the non DSP amp (used condition)is fairly inexpensive acquiring one from Ebay or a local bone yard.
