failed miserably dipping the rear emblem

emblem itself came out good but it was the in between I had problems with so how the fuck do you paint this while it's on the car?

the area I couldn't tape off is within the 5 I thought I could just take a razor & peel it off but nope. Yes, I took it all back off.

Personally I would remove the emblem itself, paint it right and then reapply with automotive adhesive.

I have yet to do an X5 badge but the AMG ones I have done I usually give it 4 - 5 light coats and mask it off about a 1/4 inch away from the outside edge of the badge. I did my first badge using 2 coats and found the plastidip would not come out of the corners or peel smoothly. I also use a tooth pick to get into the tight spots or lift an edge. Hope that helps.

Removing emblems is a huge pita from my experience. Would be my last choice lol.

Yea I don't need help with the actual process just looking for advice to get the hard spots.

Tooth pick. and as mentioned if you put a bit more on the plastidip holds together better and doesn't break apart

Will definitely try the toothpick. I did 3 coats, didn't think I need 4 but I'll do 4 next time.

Don't use a razor blade on your paint.

I wasn't. On the emblem I lightly went across it, didn't make a mark.

Removing emblem is a child's play:

Hair dryer, floss and little patience.

Removed them on all 3 bimmers with no issues. I can't say the best method for putting them back as like my cars debadged.
