I see some Cool Carbon pads in your future.

CC only produces pads for BMW, Porsche and StopTech.

Yeah.. I'm going to have to sublet that through the shop where it is. The calipers are just different enough that a new mount will have to be created. StopTech never made a 6 caliper kit for the E53, so I'm starting with the big bits I want and working through the solution.

Carbotech 1521 pads got this covered pretty well also as another choice.

Well, THAT only took like 2.5 months to finally get some pics.

See? What happened is that I got 'em on and then went south for awhile. And then it got really cold. And then I went south again for a week.. and then it was still freezing. And then tornadoes and rain for like 3 weeks. (ok, maybe only a few days)

But NOW... NOW.. we have pics. (You can juuuuuust see the red Eibach front sway bar poking around there)

And a bit closer:

The rears are the same as they were when I did this the first time, so no need for those.

I am to clean up the first set- front and rear- tomorrow or so. That should move along the effort to share the original kit with someone who feels about brakes the same way I do.

Hey Prop can you share with folks that want to go down your path with the stop techs. What size stop tech rotors did you go with and what specifically did you have to do to get the brackets to work? meaning what brackets did you start with and what was modified. I am sure some of the inquiring minds would like to know.

I used the same size rotors that were in the original X5 StopTech kit. They're 355x32mm on all 4 corners. Of course, the rear need no work from the original kit.

For the fronts. the shop did the hard part of making a bracket to work. It was made easier for them since they had the adapter original bracket supplied with the 4 caliper kit from StopTech. They needed to understand where the caliper ought to go from the original bracket and create one that would align with the new six pots. There was some doubt about whether they could get it done, but the machine shop they use got creative and made a bracket. I *think* I have a sh!tty pic of that from the shop. It's sh!tty cause they were so happy to have it done, they just sent a quick pic on the way from the machine shop.

I should note here as well that the 6 pot kit I got was for an M3. They never made one for an X5 in that size. This is important for any potential purchaser because it means that the fronts do NOT come with hats or rotors. These would have to be ordered from StopTech and I'm betting they're not cheap. Of course, the price for the kit- fronts without rotors/hats and rear complete- will take this omission into consideration.

I need to go clean that old kit for pics and to clarify what comes with it as I put the fronts up for sale.

OK. Let's just agree that they're brakes and brakes are messy as sh!t, shall we? I mean, holy hell. I don't have a parts wash, so I can't make them look new. As much as I would like. (and that's really a lot) But, I knocked a little dust off and whomever buys these can fiddle with paint or degreasers or whatever. For now, some pics...

Front calipers...
Single front..
Gnarly bits- pad width..
Front with mounting bracket...
Front underside...

More front mounts...

This can SO get better-- I am old and tired.

Front SS lines...

Close up of SS lines..

Front calipers boxed.

Ready to go!

Rears.. I did not get the rotors today. I need to find the new rear pads.

Rear caliper...

Outward facing rear caliper..

Close up of dirty rear.. .

Rear inside..

Rear ready to go...
