Been reading up on solenoid.
Are the N62 units the ones that get clogged screens?

A lot cheaper than 400 bones to replace.

Was cleaning an option?

Yes they do get clogged but only if You don't change your oil regularly,but...............what happens is that they get stuck in the advance [something about the o rings] position [meaning high rpms or pushing the throttle ] and the engine feelings like a lump .So changing them is better then just cleaning them, combined with a new IVM.........she really goes now , also I replaced my motor mounts too........

Sorry about that - 2005 X5 4.4i N62

I'm not very mechanically inclined but this item really sounds like unplugging the old one and plugging in the new one. If that's the case, then if someone can describe/post a pic of where this goes, I'd really appreciate it. I'm having similar symptoms, not severe, but definitely similar.

Thanks everyone!

Yes it is, it's in the electronic box on the passenger side underneath the window screen .

When you gain access for this job, note that the center cabin air filter has 3 parts.
The outer tips of the cabin air filter plenum detach from the center.
It makes soooo much more room to wiggle the E-box lid out of the way.
