Focal is a good brand and they have the same impedance and power handling as the JLs and a little better sensitivity at 92dbs. Also, mostly went with these because I'm impatient and got Amazon same day shipping (gets me every time).
Yeah those Focals are nice. When you install them you will have to do a DIY post to share any modifications that you had to make to get these to fit nicely. Those Focals are 6.5 inch whereas the original mounts in the X5 accommodate a 6 inch speaker hence why I used the JL Audio drivers. But others have made 6.5 inch speakers work just with more modifications to accommodate them.

Excellent info. Thanks! I was looking to do the same changeover, but I couldn't find any information on the DSP amp power and ohm ratings. I vaguely remember something about them being odd because each speaker is driven from a separate channel. Where did you find the info for speaker selection?

Just installed driver's side.. had to trim half of the "wall" off the baffle, the surrounding part the directs the sound through grille on the door panel because the 6.5" speaker wasn't going to slide in. Kinda wish I went with the 6" but it only added about 5min of work with a dremel so I'm ok with that. The tweeter sounds great and was super easy to install, just wedged it in the foam where the factory tweeter was. The midrange/bass sound good also but it does sound kind of underpowered as it does "flutter" when it tries to hit the lower notes. Better than before that's for sure.

I already have a Rockford 2 channel punch amp from my previous car install that I'm trying to hold back on installing since I don't want to go through all the trouble of looking up the wire colors but, knowing me, I'll end up going that route one day.

For now, the real task is to find an excellent dash midrange replacement speaker since it catches most of the actual voice frequencies. That would really enhance the sound as I can that speaker is the weak point now.

I actually like the fsctory DSP sound and volume level. And my added 10" sub in trunk takes away any issues i have for lacking low end. So why am i still so curious to buy new JL C2-600 speakers? If my factory speakers work well now is it worth the upgrade (rhetorical)?
Hmmmmm the addiction to modding always bites hard.

I didn't upgrade until one of my speakers were rattling. I went from OE speakers, to the BSW, then to the JL Drivers and tweeters. Each step has been a good transition.

Many years ago I installed the BSW speakers, amp and subwoofer. It was even before they made a sub that went in the original sub location. It was a huge improvement over the stock system with DSP. As mentioned the BSW is no longer offered and I expect that state of the art stuff would be even better anyway.

Yep I told you would have to modify since the original speakers are 6 inch. Even the BSWs when they were in circulation used a 6" driver and used the original mounts. The JL driver is simple plug in play.

did you use the crossover that comes with the C2-600 tweeter/6" speaker or just the JL speakers?

this is very true, but should be simple to find a higher end replacement.
