Maintenance is much more appropriate. How about the transfer case actuator gear? Did the 4.6is have issues with the front prop shaft only being in the transfer case a short distance and wearing out? Perhaps take a look at it and grease it, or if it looks worn order the longer version.
Since he as the 4.6is there is no actuator gear. His has low miles so he may just get a way with lubing the front prop shaft. At 95K miles on my 4.6is the prop shaft was good with all of the splines and teeth in good shape. I did lube it at this point for extended life and no worries.

Yeah I was amazed at how the hoses on these X5 deteriorate compared to my other BMWs especially the ones at the back of the engine. Those hoses were super soft and just coming apart in my hands. The 10+ years in service no matter what the miles are would just be good insurance for a worry free future. To many of these X5s develop the coolant leaks and some people just try to attack one hose at a time which will just drive you crazy. Make the conscious decision to change them all out and that way you will sleep better every night. I'll tell you I cannot stand leaks and drips on my garage floor and these BMWs are notorious for the leaks. Clean sweep maintenance is the best approach. No piecemeal here.

No unusual instance of failure. I haven't torn mine up after 117,000 miles of many mods trying to trash it.

Yes, I have VAC under drive pulleys for the air and power steering pulleys. I also deleted the clutch fan in favor of a variable temp control electric fan. Both good return on investment mods and not difficult installations. I posted a step by step for the fan.

I choose not to do full cooling system overhauls as components have quite different life cycles. For most there are usually warning symptoms or it is easy to inspect periodically. But, I don't drive long distances, have AAA road service and I know the history of my X5.

Engine oil change, trans oil change, front and rear differential oil changes, transfer case oil change, cabin air filter, intake filter, new spark plugs, new belts, power steering flush if it's brown, and brake fluid if you do choose. That's pretty much all the stuff I did on my 4.4 with the addition of new brakes and rotors all around and new tires. My suspension components were in good shape, check yours as the wide tires on the 4.6 are expensive, don't want to ruin them with uneven wear. Good luck
Cheers
