Pre sale help 4.8is
Le82888 is going to go up for sale soon. 4.8is 2005 with 157k on her. BSM Paint is etched as if it got into some acid rain - not through the color but would need either aggressive buff, wet sand, or re spray as buyer wishes (or leave it and drive it). Interior is pretty good black. Includes both regular mats and winter rubber mats, plus rear liner, plus dog divider. Right now the 4x4 light is on but I intend to run it in to the shop before it is officially for sale. Tires are good with a lot of tread (Continental). Wheels are painted to match body but have many chips - I believe these are factory painted. Need repaint but might as well wait for next tire swap. Properly maintained; records available for my 6 years and 60k miles of ownership (and some from prior owner). So I plan to offer it in the classifieds for a week or two before broadly listing it on the usual sites. It lives outside so we will clean it up and take pics before posting. Looking for some pricing advice recognizing both what it is and its condition. Please ask any questions related to pricing and offer your advice and opinions, please. thanks!

Body color wheels were not a factory option.

Thanks Prophead. I thought maybe factory or dealer since they are color matched, but the finish seems like a powder coat as well - when they chip, it is a big/deep chip so you can't just touch up. Although I like the look, they are a PITA to keep looking good because any mishandling or curbing is instant chipping. They are definitely factory wheels (stamping on the inside of spokes), so must have been power coated or whatever by a prior owner (I think I am #3).

Thanks for that comment X53jay4.8is. I will take care of the 4x4 light as soon as I can get it in (just came on today).
The other items I think will amount to about $1600 ($1000 for paint correction, balance for wheels, etc). One issue I've struggled with is whether that is worthwhile - in other words whether I'd get that out of the sale price. Prices online are all over the place for the 4.8is, which is why I turned to this forum for some guidance.

![]() ![]() ![]() Here are a few older pics - it hasn't changed much except for the paint flaws mentioned in the original post which seem to be impossible to photograph with my camera and limited skills. Current mileage is 157k. All systems working properly. Some of the pixel "streaking" on the nav screen; all other displays are correct and complete. 4x4 light just needed a reset, nothing going on. Battery on a tender now ![]() I'm thinking ask is maybe ask $9500??? Go to $12k if I do the paint correction and repair all four wheels (repaint). Range on various sites for 4.8is similar years (version) seems to be $5k-$18k. Mine is in excellent mechanical condition but needs the exterior cosmetic work and has higher miles. Will be including winter mats including trunk liner, also the dog net. Has black grills and I have the original silvers in a box along with a few other spares to include. Any feedback on that pricing? Once set, I will do one final cleaning, take some good fresh pics and put it in the for sale forum and probably craigslist locally to start. Thanks!

I won't be much help for the majority of it but I can for sure say on the detail / paint correction that you absolutely will not get a return on a $1,000 detail on it. Find a good reputable detailer and ask them about doing a one step or all in one polish. That should include a thorough wash, paint decontamination, and the light paint correction and typically around $200. That will remove oxidation, marring, and light swirl marks as well as improve the look of the etching in the clear coat will really improve the overall look of the paint. Most potential buyers won't know the difference or even care between perfect paint and glossy paint with deeper swirls. A $200 AIO or one step could easily return the investment and make the vehicle more attractive to a buyer, a $1,000 paint correction in my opinion is a waste of money just to sell a vehicle.

Thanks.
On the paint correction, I probably shouldn't have used a detailer's term because what it needs is a wet sanding followed possibly by a new clear coat on the horizontal surfaces (hood and top); might as well touch up any scratches, etc in the process. This is due to the "water spotting" which I think is actually from acid rain or some other environmental exposure. My detailer gave it a good buff but wouldn't go any further (he doesn't wet sand) and my body shop (a shame I have one, isn't it?) said about $1k to fix the paint. Once the weather warms a bit (17f here today), I will give it a good wash and a good interior clean, then take pics and put it up for sale. I drove it a bit today; it sure is nice and quite a beast! Again, thanks for the input/help!
