4.8is Alternator Bracket Replacement

Alrighty so I've done a little googling and looking through the BMW Bentley Manual and I haven't been able to find a good write up on how to replace this gasket. My 4.8is has been out of commission for a week now because of a pretty bad oil leak from the drivers side and from looking at where the oil is coming from I am pretty positive its that gasket (also from googling its a big issue with this engine). I do understand the gist of how to get to the gasket and get it off but if anyone done it before and or knows a decent write up that I dont know it would be much appreciated to share!

I vaguely remember a video on YouTube about this. But that was on an E70 - I ended up having my Indy do it. Not sure how similar it is on the e53 - but bounce over to that forum and search there.

Sorry for the double post but figured I'd just say I finally just got my car 100% fixed. Ended up just taking it to a shop after I got partway through and it just was going to be too much work. Total out the door was $1000 so not terrible.

that instruction done on the E70 is for the oil cooler o-rings. the seal that usually goes bad is the alternator bracket one RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog item #2. for the alternator bracket seal item #2 RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog you have to do the following

1. remove the intake scoop
2. remove the fan ( it have 2 retaining clips on top)
3. remove the drive belt and replace if necessary
4. loosen the axle nut both sides
5. loosen the wheel bolts and secure the vehicle with jack stands
6. loosen the engine mounts lower bolts (and driver side upper bolt)
7. rase the engine and support it with a engine stand
8. drain the front differential
9. remove the front axle
10. remove the front differential and put it aside.
11. remove the alternator
12. loosen the power steering pump
13.remove the alternator bracket
14. scrape off the old gasket and install new gasket
15. put everything back together and enjoy

you don't have to follow step by step on in the exact order but this will help in the prosses. I have done this to various N62 engines. it will take time and patients. good luck

Anyone have a parts list needed to do this repair? Going to do the engine mounts while I’m in there. Anything else I should do “while I’m in there”?
